I’d gotten mired all Spring in gift knitting that (at DK gauge and given my knitting time recently) ended up lasting for months. Once that was wrapping up, I bought two skeins of this blue yarn on a whim on a Sunday afternoon trip to Wallingford in June, and cast on for a simple v-neck Sirdar pattern with a broken rib pattern. I love the yarn, love the easy pattern, and love the blue with the sunflowers (still going strong from the farmers market bday bouquet).

While I work on the back, I’ve been debating changing the front from a pullover v-neck to a pea-coat style double row of bright yellow buttons. Seeing this with the sunflowers is another vote for a button-friendly front. Here’s a shot of the “wrong side” since it’s pretty, too:

Sampler rolls of 12″x18″ wool felt from my brother and sister (for making play food like this!), and a collapsible sewing table (that I can set up in the family room where the machine won’t wake the baby!) from Kevin and his parents!

I’ve been suffering all summer from a backlog of envisioned sewing projects – can’t wait for work to die down a little bit later this month so that I can put both of these to excellent use. 🙂

A fascinating discovery in Sonoma: artichokes growing look like this (which I knew already)

But when they bolt, you suddenly have these seven foot tall florescent purple wonders:

Apparently they’re part of the thistle family, which makes sense I suppose given the fluff you have to remove to get to the heart, but Kevin and I thought they were so neat.

The pink & purple one is really red, the bottom one is really fir green and lime (yay, overexposed sunlit photos), and all four are destined to become baby pajama bottoms. 🙂

I finally finished the last steps (the bottom cuff, the elastic) of a deceptively short project that was several weeks in the works: lined cotton pajama pants for the baby.

They’re adorable and perfect, except a good two inches short at the waist in the back. I traced and munged together several shorts and pants that do fit to make these, but clearly I need to tweak. Disappointing. Once I remotivate, I’ll have to go back and fix these, since they’re so cute.
